Speech & Language Therapist

We are currently looking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapist who knows how to support and help the learning of our ASC pupils.  We are a new school filled with staff who are passionate, dedicated and will bring their experience to our team based at Cumbria Academy for Autism. This through School is a specialist provision for ASC pupils and will provide education for boys and girls aged between 4 and 19 years who have a primary need and diagnosis of Autism and who may be suffering social, emotional and behavioural problems in mainstream Education. This is an exciting opportunity to join our provision and play a key role in the development and learning of our students. The SALT will become part of the therapy team that specialises in monitoring and designing communication strategies to meet the specific individual needs of the pupils within and outside of class to give all of our students the best possible educational outcomes and life experiences.

At Cumbria Academy for Autism, students will benefit from our unique, bespoke creative curriculum with strategic support from multidisciplinary teams of therapists, and we are looking for the SALT to take a leading role within the creation of our therapy teaching team which will enhance the whole schools learning experience.

The Role

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our new school; this is a really exciting opportunity to be part of something very special.

You will provide a specialised child-centred speech and language therapy service to children and young people aged between 4 to 19 years of age who have autism and associated complex needs across the academy, undertaking assessment, interpretation of assessment results, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, advice and review.

You will contribute to the creation of Cumbria Academy for Autism’s ethos, provide the vision and direction which enables effective support and achievement by students, providing sustained improvement in their spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical well-being in preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

Some occasional out of hours work such as evenings and weekends may be required e.g. Parent evenings or home visits.

About You

You will hold a recognised professional Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent and be both a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and also hold registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

You will have demonstrative experience of working within Specialist Education supporting children and young people with Autism and learning disabilities who have severe and complex speech, language and communication needs and knowledge of statutory legislation concerning social care work including Health and Safety and Protection of Children and Young People.
